DIY: Being a tenant and putting up wallpaper, is it possible?
Wallpaper, the first choice for decoration
We often hear that renting and decorating don't go well together.
Don't make holes in the walls, don't paint, don't wallpaper... "Oh really? But would that mean that all tenants like me are doomed to live in accommodation that doesn't suit them? Without personalization, without color, without joy of living?"
Raw words that would take our breath away!
What if we told you that the MuralConcept team and I have racked our brains so that you can decorate your home to your taste?
Would you be happy? Then here we go. :)
Being a tenant is just a business matter!
Am I allowed to put up wallpaper if I am a tenant?
The basics of the rental contract
Legally, the tenant has the right to do minor work as long as he does not modify the accommodation. Decorating a rental apartment is therefore possible, but up to what stage? The limit being contentious , most tenants do not dare to cross the line, which is understandable.
Possible negotiation on decoration?
Know that taking your courage in both hands can already be useful to you. Some owners are not averse to having some work done on the decoration of their apartment/house. Indeed, installing wallpaper or repainting a wall is a sign of beautification . So, why not dare to ask them?
In some cases, when you leave, you may leave the wall as is, or you may have to repaint it white.
And if the owner doesn't want me to touch the wall, what should I do?
Do It Yourself
You'll have to get your hands dirty. But that doesn't scare us! And then, we like things we do ourselves . We love it when guests say "Oh, that's really beautiful, where did you buy it?" We know that your little voice, too, jumps for joy at the idea of hearing such compliments.
So, are you dreaming of a great jungle decor or pretty colorful flowers? Do you also want your interior to be trendy? Then you've come to the right place.
The solution, sustainable and movable: create a section of wall, outside your wall! You see?
Create your own DIY wallpaper when you are a tenant
Clearly define your decoration project
Now that we have found the solution, we are saved! We will be able to decorate our apartment without any contraindications. And what do we do now?
With a medium density fiberboard sheet and a piece of wallpaper, almost any decorative project can be made: headboard, room divider, decorative frame, or simple wall decoration . If we want to go further, we can also make professional projects such as panels for stands, special events , etc.
The medium density fiberboard / plywood board can be purchased in all large DIY stores. We recommend minimum dimensions of 250cm x 130cm).
Non-woven wallpaper offers good value for money for a spectacular, mobile and long-lasting decoration.
Let’s make your own mobile wallpaper wall panel
How do you do it?
Gather all the materials needed to create our panel, you need:
- the most beautiful wallpaper on earth
- a medium-density fibreboard (we recommend a board measuring at least250cm x 130cm)
- glue for non-woven wallpaper
- a brush-brush
- paper towel
- a cutter.
Once the equipment is in place, we move on to manual tests . ;)
Place your MDF board on the floor, facing the floor.
Apply the glue to the MDF board. We recommend applying the glue evenly, without putting too much on.
Once the glue is applied, you can start to hang your panoramic wallpaper as if you were sticking it on your wall.
Smooth down so that there are no bubbles on your plate and wipe off the glue that overflows from the medium density fiberboard delicately.
Let it dry for 24 hours and voila! Here is the result . :D
